BreakLine is a career acceleration platform that helps military veterans, first responders, and student athletes transition into careers at top companies. The platform matches around 600 candidates per week to partner companies like Stripe, Airbnb, and Anduril.
I joined in January 2025 as the sole product designer. The leadership brief was to modernize the UI with the team’s newer design system. I reframed the work as a five-track platform transformation: a UX Tone Strategy that became the platform’s voice source of truth, the first formal UX research program BreakLine had ever run, the Catalyst design system foundations, the platform redesign itself, and a testable version of the application built in code that I could run user research against before any production ticket got pulled.
The work that shipped paid back across the company. The participant search redesign drove $200K+ in additional revenue from 8 hires, 1,500+ “add to game plan” events, and 100+ interviews. The Chrome extension shipped to the Web Store and was mandated for the sourcing team’s daily workflow, dropping mistaken outreach to do-not-contact participants to zero. The partner microsite at partners.breakline.org tripled lead conversions to the sales team. The UX Tone Strategy outlived my tenure as the voice source of truth.
The production platform redesign didn’t reach commercial ship before the March 2026 layoff. The design work validated in research, with veterans mid-transition completing the redesigned application they’d refused before, and the strategic shape of the 2026 roadmap I presented at the offsite was the direction the team was set up to build against.

BreakLine's sourcing team worked on LinkedIn but answered to a database that didn't follow them. The gap exposed BreakLine to legal risk: junior recruiters reaching out to do-not-contact participants 2-3 times a week, with $1M+ partner contracts at risk per incident. I designed a Chrome sidebar extension that validated every LinkedIn profile against the platform. Mistaken outreach to do-not-contact participants dropped to zero.
